Overview

Hatha Yoga Mysore Style is a personalised course for those seeking to learn the traditional yoga technique.

Practicing Hatha Yoga at IndeaYoga will bring the realization that the physical body is only a part of our personality and not all of it. Hatha Yoga at IndeaYoga prepares one for growth and transformation with a solid training in foundation. It prepares the body and mind to grow with bliss.

You will learn about sharing weight between right and left side, working on posture alignment, developing right kind of breathing, perfect the classical Surya Namaskara, balancing asanas, standing variation asanas, inversion, back bends, forward bends, finishing postures and pranayama techniques.

Prerequisites

Students applying for this course have at least 6 months of Hatha yoga practice.

You must be able to perform at least 80% of the Abhyasa ( Preparatory) series and 60% of the Foundation Series.

It is suggested that to prepare for greater benefits from your visit to the shala, you may practice under?IndeaYoga certified teachers available close to your location.

If this is not possible, you may enrol yourself for the Hatha Yoga Guided Self Practice classes, also known as Mysore Style Classes before you start your course in teacher training.

Priority will be given to our past students and IndeaYoga practitioners.

Course Curriculum

Module 1: Beginner & Intermediate Classical Hatha Yoga Asanas Taught in the IndeaYoga Style

During this module, you will learn how to practice the IndeaYogaArogya (Beginner), Abhyasa (Preparatory) and Foundation Series.

The Arogya (Beginner) series provides the knowledge and skill to work with students who are injured or extremely stiff, lack flexibility and stability, aging population and beginners to yoga asana.

The Abhyasa (Preparatory) and Foundation Series provides one with a wide range of Asanas to improve body balance, strength and flexibility.

Module 2: Asana Technique Classes

Teaching of Asanas in all the three series is thoroughly imparted in the following structure.
Students are expected to learn this sequence in detail for each asana by the end of the course and for the exam.

Module 3: Individual Practice – Leading a group class to develop the teacher in you

Applying the above 8-step teaching methodology, students will take several teaching sessions, leading fellow T.T.C. students in a classroom setting.

Students may also be required to sit-in and observe IndeaYoga teachers who present the Mysore Style classes.

The aim is for students to gain knowledge of teaching methodologies that include the principles of demonstration, instructions and observation.

 

Module 4: Pranayama

A selection of energising and relaxing pranayama techniques such as Kapalbhati, Shitali, Shitkari, Bhramari, Bhastrika, Ujjai  andNadiShuddhi will be taught and practiced during the course.

 

Module 5: Anatomy Lessons

A general overview of the structure and function of the human anatomy will be taught for the student to co-relate the impact of their practice on the body.

 

Module 6: Key Shlokas, their meaning and chanting context

Students are expected to learn the prescribed opening and closing prayers, their meanings, and also familiarise themselves with chanting few other mantras.

 

Module 7: Overview of Yoga Philosophy and Yoga Sutras
This part includes the basics from the study of yoga scriptures, such as:

  • Meaning of the word ‘Yoga’
  • Raja Yoga of Patanjali
  • Overview of Chakras, Pancha-Koshas , Prana
  • Overview of Patanjali Yoga Sutras and Ashtanga (eight-fold) Yoga
  • Overview of Sutras from Chapter 1 – Samadhi Pada& Chapter 2 – SadhanaPada

 

Module 8: Self-practice

Self-study, study of recommended books, participating in discussion and practice of all the above-mentioned topics is expected from each student throughout the four week course.

Course Exam & Certification

On successful completion of a theory and practical exam you graduate with IndeaYoga Training (IYT250+) and Registered Yoga School (RYS 200) with Yoga Alliance certificates.

In the end, you are more than just a teacher. You become a yogi in the truest sense.
