Hatha Teacher Training 500+

Overview

The 500+ hours of Hatha Yoga Teacher Training is a life-transforming course wherein you move from being just a “yoga enthusiast” to a “lifetime advocate of yoga”. The teacher residing in you surfaces to the top of your consciousness and you’ll find it easier to relate to your students.

During the period of 8 weeks, the course covers the major aspects of asana practice and techniques, teaching methodologies, philosophy, lifestyle ethics, pranayama and meditation, as well as Bandhas, Mudras and Kriyas. You gain a comprehensive understanding of the human body and you’ll know how to work with innumerable yoga poses. You begin to take cognizance of the fact that the more you go deeper, the more you realize that you know very little.

Note: Seats are limited.The institute provides manuals.

Prerequisites

It requires that the students applying for this course have at least 3 Years of  yoga practice. (You may as well practice under IndeaYoga certified teachers available close to your location). If this is not the case, you may enroll yourself for the Hatha Yoga Mysore Style Classes before you start your course in teacher training. Priority will be given to our past students and IndeaYoga practitioners.

Course Curriculum

Month 1 

 

Asana Practice and Technique

During this course one will learn how to practice and teach in detail the IndeaYoga Beginner Series, IndeaYoga Preparatory Series and IndeaYogaFoundation Series. The Beginner series provides the knowledge andskill to work with students who are injured or extremely stiff, and lack flexibility and stability, as well as aging populations and beginners. The Preparatory and Foundation series provide one with a wide range ofAsanas

Teaching of all three series is thoroughly imparted in the following structure by Bharath Shetty, and students are expected to know this detail for each asana by the end of the course and for the exam.

Teaching practice

Applying the above 8-step teaching methodology, students will have taught several sessions by teaching the other TTC students in a classroom setting. Students will also be required to sit-in and observe Bharath and other IndeaYoga teachers who present the Mysore style classes. The aim is for students to gain knowledge of the methodology of teaching that includes the principles of demonstration, instructions and observation.

 

Prayers (Slokas) and Chanting (Kirtan)

Students are expected to learn the prescribed opening and closing prayers, their meanings, and also familiarize themselves with chanting few other mantras and Kirtans.

 

Pranayama

A selection of pranayama techniques will be taught and practiced during the course.

 

Anatomy

Anatomyincludes the study of physical human body anatomy, the skeleton, organs and muscles, cardiovascular system, and nutrition.

 

Philosophy and Ethics

This part includes the basics from the study of yoga scriptures, ethics for yoga teachers and life of a yogi and includes:

  • Meaning of the word “Yoga”
  • Raja Yoga of Patanjali
  • Panchakoshas
  • Overview of Chakras
  • Overview of PatanjaliYoga Sutras and “Ashtanga (eight-fold) Yoga”, with a more detailed Satsang on selected sutras from chapters 1 (SamadhiPada)and 2 (SadhanaPada) of the sutras.

 

Self-practice

Self-study, study of recommended books, participating in discussion and practice of all the above-mentioned topics is also expected from each student during the four weeks.

 

Trip through the Golden Triangle

The institute organizes a trip to Belur-Halebidu-ShravanaBelagola, where you can get a glimpse of India’s ancient architecture and cultural heritage. The trip is optional and is exclusive of the course fee.

Month 2

 

Asana practice and technique

One will attend two strong asana practice sessions per day. Morning asanas coverIndea Foundation or Indea Preparatory series. Afternoon practices will primarily incorporate Indea Innovation series - back bending, hip opening and balancing asanas (including AdhomukhaVrikshasana and PinchaMayurasana). Teachers are also engaged in understanding the key points in teaching certain asanas to students.

 

Chanting

Students must learn the IndeaYoga opening and closing prayer that are chanted before and after every session.

 

Pranayama

A selection of Pranayama techniques will be taught and practiced during the course.

 

Meditation

There will regularly be short sessions of meditation (around 15-30 minutes per session).

 

Anatomy

This session covers a number of conditions and diseases and how to treat these with yoga.

 

Bandhas

Jalandara Bandha, Uddiyana Bandha, Moola Bandha and Maha Bandha.

 

Kriyas

Jalaneti, Sutra Neti, Kaphalabati, Trataka, Shankprakshalana, and Dhouti. In addition to learning the technique, students will have the opportunity to gain personal experience in performing these kriyas during the course.

 

Mudras

Yoni mudra, bhairava mudra,hridaya mudra, shambavi mudra, nasikagradristi, shanmukhi mudra, etc.

 

Philosophy

Patanjali Yoga Sutra (Raja Yoga) - Vibhuti Pada (chapter 3), Kaivalya Pada (chapter 4), KarmayogaSlokaSangrahah (Bhagavad Gita), Atma (Nirvana) Shataka. The following subjects will be covered too: Chakras and Ayurveda principles.

Food - Organic, Vegetarian and Sattvik

The food provided here is Sattvic and only vegetarian. The food menu is standardized and students will be provided with 3 meals every day. The food served is mainly organic and nutritional, keeping in mind the requirements of the students practice. All meals will be served in the Dining Hall only and students will not be allowed to eat in the rooms. Fruits and other snacks will be available in the premises which can be bought by the students. Coffee and Tea will also be available throughout the day!

NOTE: Your stay will also include a savory Gala Dinner.

Travel

Pick up and drop facility from the airport to Yoga Dhaama will be arranged for the students on additional charges. For local travel needs, a Travel Desk facility will be made available, at the reception, to all students.

Cycles will also be available, which can be rented by the students for small weekend rides! If a student still has some energy and time left after his/her practice and study.

Our Teachers

Prof Nagaraja Rao

Prof.Nagaraja Raois a visiting faculty who teaches philosophy at IndeaYoga. He is a gifted and very natural teacher; he is an expert in the field of Sanskrit where his primary specialty is Panini’s grammar. He was a chief researcher at the Oriental Institute in Mysore, visiting professor to both Chicago University and Jerusalem University, Israel.

In addition to teaching here at IndeaYoga, he has also visited and lectured at yoga courses in Thailand several times. His humble, yet clear and knowledgeable way of teaching has always inspired students.

Archana Shetty

A serious and passionate advanced yoga practitioner and has dedicated her spare time from home to learning and spreading awareness about yoga. Archana is married to Bharath Shetty and has been trained under him. She is experienced in teaching beginners as well as advanced practitioners, and focuses more on back bending and hip opening asanas. She often assists Bharath in Mysore Style classes at the shala and also teaches yoga regularly to pregnant women. Apart from the regular yoga classes she takes the evening kirtan and chanting sessions at IndeaYoga. Archana is also very learned in kriya yoga and assists with the cleansing techniques (including preparing the meal immediately after certain techniques) for IndeaYoga advanced TTC.

Raghu N D

Raghu is anIndeaYogacertified teacher, presently in charge of Yoga Bharata, a unit of IndeaYoga. Teaching since 2012, he is proficient in coaching intermediate and advanced yoga practitioners, and popular with Children’s Yoga and Pranayama. At Yoga Bharatha, Raghu guides led sessions in Foundation and Vinyasa classes. He also conducts Mysore Style sessions and Pranayama.

Following a stint with a bank in Mysore, Raghu was introduced to Yogacharya Bharath Shetty in 2011. Raghu realized a career path here. He was trained under the guidance of Bharath Shetty and completed Teachers Training Courses by 2012. He was awarded Grade A with title 'Yoga BhushanaPrabodaPatra' in an examination conducted by the Karnataka State Government in 2013.

He has continued to assist Yogacharya Bharath Shetty in workshops conducted at Lions school, RBI, a1000yoga and has been independently promoting and handling summer camps for kids. He has been assisting Yogacharya Bharath Shetty during TTCs. Since 2015, he has been organizing monthly workshops on behalf of Indea Foundation, and has been very successful at it.

Born inNayakanahalli, Hassan District on 3rd January 1991, he found his call in Yoga and continues to teach today with complete dedication still considering himself an apprentice and always willing to learn more.

Nikhil

An ardent practitioner of Yoga for the last couple of years with Bharath Shetty, Nikhil is one of our senior teachers with RYT 500 (Yoga Alliance certification) to his credit. He has been assisting Bharath since the completion of the course. He fits into the IndeaYoga team almost to perfection, knowing his qualities of maintaining discipline to the classes and punctuality, just like his master. Nikhil chose this yoga path out of choice after working for over 3 years. One of our senior teachers here at the Shaala.

Bharath Shetty

Yogacharya Bharath Shetty is the first yoga teacher in India to be certified as E-RYT 500. He also has RCYT and RPYT to his credit. Having more than 2 decades of yoga teaching experience, he has trained more than 600 teachers from over 70 countries.

Yogashree

Ms. Vid Yogashree who was born in a very traditional family in the heritage city of Mysore. She began her Sanskrit training at a very young age at Sanskrit patashala in an authentic style. She pursued her Masters and Vidwath course in Sanskrit language she has been teaching at different levels now for over eight years. She is also experienced in training foreign students in basic Sanskrit language and advanced Sanskrit language, its pronunciation, chanting etc. Yogashree has also been learning yoga from a very young age and has done her yoga instructor’s course from a reputed yoga university. The immense knowledge that she has gained enables her to teach both Sanskrit and yoga related texts to yoga practitioners. Yogashree being an Indian classical musician has been conducting bhajan and chanting session which will be truly divine and a real treat.
